Speech and Language Pathologists and Audiologists Recognized by House and Senate on May 12th, 2016
On May 12th of 2016, the Delaware General Assembly formally designated the second Thursday in May as Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists Day.
Over 40 Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists from across the state attended the ceremony at Legislative Hall celebrating the work they do with children and adults with communication impairments.
In addition to the recognition ceremony, members of the Delaware Speech-Language-Hearing Association (DSHA) and the Delaware State Education Association (DSEA) hosted a luncheon for legislators and met with a number of legislators individually to advocate for improving the speech and hearing services available in Delaware.
Their legislative advocacy on May 12th was part of DSHA’s “Can We Talk?” campaign, which seeks to educate Delawareans about the need for, and impact of, speech-language and hearing services across all ages, from early intervention in school through adulthood.
DSHA would like to thank the many Delaware State Representatives, Delaware State Senators, and DSHA members who participated in the DSHA’s first Legislative Day in Dover on May 12, 2016. For DSHA members interested in continuing their advocacy efforts, below are the informational materials used in the “Can We Talk?” Campaign.
