Audiologist

Speaker bio: Dr. Kathleen Riley (Kathi Riley) is an educational audiologist with over 40
years experience. Kathi retired from Delaware School for the Deaf and Statewide
Programs for Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Deaf Blind in 2017.  In that position she served
0-21 DHH, DeafBlind and Deaf with additional challenges children in both a residential
school and mainstream students in their home districts.  Additionally, Dr Riley taught
coursework in AuD and SLP programs at the graduate and undergraduate level for 10
years.  Currently, Kathi serves as President -Elect for EAA.   Previously, she served as
the VP of Advocacy for the Educational Audiology Association where she led a team to
write best practice guidance documents for educational audiologists.  Within that role,
Dr Riley has been involved in numerous ad hoc committees through EAA and ASHA to
promote educational audiology services and erase access barriers for children with
hearing differences. Kathi Riley was a founding member of the DE EHDI committee and
continues to serve as a public member after retirement.   Dr. Riley has long been
interested in congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV) in children with disabilities as it
presents uniquely in every affected child.  It is the second leading cause of hearing loss
in children and the leading cause of delayed onset pediatric hearing loss.  She has
presented at ASHA 2025 on this topic, as well as a recorded webinar for ASHA
Learning Pass.  Dr. Riley continues to follow updated research on this topic and is
