Description of the Presentation:
Students who are Deaf and Hard Hearing are being mainstreamed into typical classrooms more frequently than in the past. This talk will help speech language therapist working with these students to understand how hearing impacts performance in the classroom. Assessment and interventions for specific areas of need including auditory memory will be addressed.
Learning Objectives:
1. Learn reasons why D/HOH students hear but do not understand spoken language
2. Learn about assessment of specific skills a D/HOH children may need to develop
3. Learn specific accommodations for the classroom for D/HOH students

Sharon Graney received her master’s in Speech Language Pathology from Gallaudet University in 1991. She has spent nearly 30 years working with children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing at Delaware School for the Deaf in Newark, DE. She has also taught courses as an adjunct in Aural Rehab/Spoken English Development at both Gallaudet University and University of Delaware.
